Faith over fear – A lesson from a lizard

Faith Over Fear

I want to share something that happened to me on Wednesday. You know those moments when you look back and think, “Wow, what was I thinking?” I had one of those – all thanks to a lizard!

I was just about to take my little one to my parent’s place when I spotted this small lizard on my car window. Now, lizards freak me out (more than cockroaches, if you can believe it). Without thinking, I swerved my car out of fear, ended up hitting the curb, and got a flat tire!

Faith Over Fear

As I drove slowly to my parents, I had a bit of a “light bulb” moment. Remember how we always read in the Bible that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear? There’s that verse in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” I realized how I had let my irrational fear overrule that spirit, and that wasn’t okay. We’re meant to harness that power and love, and most importantly, that sound mind when fear creeps up on us.

Another thing hit me. I had let my fear of a silly lizard take priority over my child’s safety. When it comes to what’s important, I had completely missed the mark! It reminded me of that verse in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” It’s so easy to let our worries and fears become bigger than they should be, and lose sight of what really matters, don’t you think?

So here’s what I’m trying to say, let’s try not to let fear control our decisions. Let’s take a step back, take a deep breath, say a little prayer, and handle our fears with the power and love God gave us.

And let’s always remember what’s most important in our lives. God should be our priority, and everything else will fall into place. We’re mothers, yes, and sometimes it’s hard to see past our fears for our kids. But we’ve got to trust that God’s got our backs and He’s looking out for our little ones too.

I hope my little lizard encounter helps you in some way. Remember, we’re all navigating this Christian walk together – with grace, courage, and faith over fear.

PS: So what if the lizard incident happens again? My husband reminded me to find a safe place and stop the car to chase the lizard out.
