Transform Your Spiritual Journey with Our FREE R.O.A.D + P Bible Reading Reflection Template

Struggling to Keep Up with Daily Devotions?

I totally get it. Life gets busy, and it’s easy to let daily devotions fall by the wayside. When that happens, it’s easy to feel disconnected from our faith and overwhelmed by daily demands.

Stay On Track with Daily Devotions

I’ve been there too. That’s why I want to share a flexible and structured approach that I found incredibly helpful: the R.O.A.D + P template. This method helps me stay engaged and inspired, no matter how hectic my schedule gets, and I believe it can help you too.

My Personal Journey with the R.O.A.D + P Template

Maintaining a consistent Bible reading habit used to be a real struggle for me. I often felt overwhelmed, and I’d lose momentum quickly. Everything changed when I discovered the R.O.A.D + P method, which is similar to the SOAP method but includes an extra step that my church emphasizes.

While the SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) is fantastic, the R.O.A.D + P method adds an important step: Do. This extra step focuses on immediate, practical actions based on what you’ve learned. It helps break down broader applications into specific, short-term actions that you can start implementing right away.

The R.O.A.D + P template has been a game-changer for me. It provides a structured yet flexible approach to Bible reading, making it easier to stay engaged and inspired. This method serves as a guide to help me understand and live out the Bible’s teachings more effectively.

How the R.O.A.D + P Template Works

The R.O.A.D + P method is a simple way to help you understand and live out the Bible’s teachings. Here’s how it works:

Scripture Reading

Start by selecting a passage or a few verses from the Bible. Read it slowly and carefully, maybe even a couple of times, to really grasp its meaning.

R - Read

Summarize: In your own words, write a short summary of what you read. What's the main point?

Highlight: Note any key points or themes that stand out.

O - Observe

Notice: Write down anything that catches your attention. Are there any interesting words or ideas?

Reflect: Jot down any questions or insights that come to mind.

A - Apply

Personalize: Think about how this passage relates to your life. What can you learn from it?

Internalize: Consider how it affects your thoughts and attitudes. Write down your thoughts.

D - Do

Action: Identify specific actions you can take based on what you’ve learned. How will you put this into practice?

Plan: Set simple, practical goals to make these actions part of your daily routine.

P - Prayer

Pray: Write a short prayer asking for help to live out the teachings from the passage. Include any specific requests or things you’re thankful for.

Example: Applying the R.O.A.D + P Method

Let’s walk through an example using Matthew 22

Read:

Write out which verse in the passage spoke to you. For example, Matthew 22;39 ("Love your neighbor as yourself")

Observe:

You note down how important love is in this teaching. Think about why Jesus emphasized this.

Apply:

Reflect on how you can show love in your daily life. Think about your relationships and how you treat others.

Do:

Decide to do something specific, like helping a neighbor or being more patient with others. Set a goal to show kindness every day.

Prayer:

Write a prayer asking for strength and opportunities to love others as yourself.
